Job summary

Durham University in the United Kingdom seeks a Postdoctoral Research Associate to pursue experimental research in atomic and laser physics within the Quantum Light and Matter group. The role aligns with EURAMET metrology funding and involves leading experiments on trapped ultra-cold atoms.

The successful candidate will contribute to new trapping techniques, collaborate with the CoCoRiCo consortium, supervise graduate students, and assist with undergraduate teaching.

Qualifications

• Experience with narrowband and tunable lasers used in atomic/quantum experiments.
• Background in atomic physics, quantum optics or laser cooling and trapping is required.
• Ability to lead and develop experiments within a small research group.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of experiments to trap and manipulate ultra-cold atoms for optical clock work.
• Develop new techniques for trapping/ manipulating atoms and study systematic errors in tweezer arrays.
• Supervise graduate students and contribute to undergraduate teaching in the department.
• Represent the group at international conferences and collaborate across the CoCoRiCo consortium.
