Job summary

University of Surrey seeks an outstanding postdoctoral researcher to co-develop an MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship proposal on privacy-preserving AI for understanding real-world human behaviour in service environments. The project sits at the intersection of computer vision, sequence modelling, responsible AI and sustainability, with a focus on a hospitality setting.

The fellow will work across AI, sustainability, psychology and hospitality groups to move a prototype from concept to validated

Qualifications

• PhD required or expected by the MSCA deadline.
• Strong programming ability, preferably in Python.
• Experience with ML/DL frameworks and CV tasks.
• Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team and communicate to non-technical audiences.

Responsibilities

• Design and co-develop a privacy-preserving behavioural AI prototype.
• Develop CV and ML methods for non-identifying behavioural events.
• Convert events into sequences interpretable by social scientists.
• Develop validation protocols comparing AI outputs with human observations.
• Ensure outputs are meaningful and ethically robust.
• Contribute to ethics, privacy-by-design and responsible AI procedures.
• Test the prototype in controlled settings and at field sites.
• Publish interdisciplinary research and assist with follow-on funding proposals.
