Job summary

University of Oxford, Department of Engineering Science, is seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant in Biomechanical Modelling and Wearable Robotics to join RADlab in central Oxford. The role focuses on developing computational models to guide design of wearable devices and studying effects on movement, muscle activity, and joint loading.

The post is funded by UKRI, fixed-term to 31 May 2028, and offers a salary of £39,424–£47,779 per annum.

Qualifications

• PhD or near completion in Engineering, Biomechanics, Robotics or related field.
• Experience in musculoskeletal modelling or gait analysis.
• Strong understanding of movement mechanics (inverse dynamics, muscle recruitment).
• Proficient with modelling tools (OpenSim, AnyBody) and Python/MATLAB.

Responsibilities

• Develop musculoskeletal models to predict muscle forces and joint loads.
• Simulate human–robot interaction to define actuation needs during movements.
• Use optimisation to place actuators and guide device geometry.
• Collaborate with experimentalists to validate models against motion data.
