Job summary

Royal Mail in Cheddar is looking for a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) to join our local team delivering letters and parcels across Cheddar, Winscombe, and Wedmore. You will work 37 hours a week on a rotating schedule, including Sundays, with a full manual UK driving licence and ability to pass a driving assessment.

Full training provided, uniform supplied, and paid overtime. This fixed-term role offers practical, active work outdoors and the chance to serve your community with reliable service

Job type: Fixed Term contract 6 Months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 37:00 hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday - 07.30/16:30*

This position covers 3 delivery offices: Cheddar Delivery Office, Winscombe Delivery Office (BS25 1JF) and Wedmore Delivery Office (BS25 8EB)

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You’ll be required to work Sundays at Cheddar Delivery Office, Winscombe Delivery Office and Wedmore Delivery Office.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
