Job summary

Royal Mail in Leicester is offering a fixed term contract for 12 months as a postie. You will deliver letters and parcels, sort at the delivery office, and build relationships with customers. The 35-hour week runs over 5 days in 7, including Saturdays and Sundays, with outdoor duties in all weather.

You receive full training, a uniform, and a Royal Mail van. A valid UK manual driving licence (up to 6 penalty points) is required, plus fitness to walk long distances and lift mailbags.

Job type: Fixed Term contract 12 months

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 35:00 hours per week - working 5 days in 7 across Monday - Sunday with 2 rest days - 07.00/15:30*

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We'll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You'll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
