Job summary

Royal Mail in Glasgow is seeking a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) on a permanent contract. You will sort letters and parcels, deliver by van and on foot in your local area, and build strong relationships with customers while working outdoors in all weathers.

The role is 20 hours per week with shift patterns Monday to Saturday, and overtime is paid. A full manual UK driving licence and ability to pass a driving assessment are essential.

Location: Glasgow G15 Delivery Office, G15 8LY

Job type: Permanent contract

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available. Working hours: 20:00 hours per week – working 5 days in 6 across Monday - Saturday - 14:30pm/18:30pm*

You’ll work on a rotating shift schedule, including some weekends. Your rota will confirm your hours and delivery routes, which may vary based on demand.

You may also be required to work out of Alexandria Delivery Office (G83 0LY) to support the business when demand requires.

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
