Job summary

Royal Mail is recruiting a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Amersham to join our delivery team on a fixed-term contract of 9 months. You will handle letters and parcels, working outdoors, and exploring the local area with a Royal Mail van and on foot.

You'll need a full manual UK driving licence, be physically fit, and enjoy working independently while delivering excellent service to customers.

Job type: Fixed Term contract (9 months)

Salary: £13.68 per hour* (paid monthly) + paid overtime available.

Working hours: 37 hours per week – working (5) days in 7 across Monday - Sunday – 07:00am/15:30pm*

What to expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About you

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
