Job summary

Royal Mail is hiring a Postie (Postal Delivery Driver) in Darwen to sort and deliver letters and parcels across a fixed-term 9-month contract. You will work 35 hours per week, Monday to Sunday, 08:00 to 15:30, with overtime opportunities and a full training program.

The role involves outdoor work in all weather, building customer relationships, and delivering items accurately and on time. A full UK driving licence is required and you will be paid £13.68 per hour with monthly pay.

Qualifications

• Must hold a full UK manual driving licence and be able to pass a driving assessment.
• Physically capable of walking long distances and lifting 10kg+ mailbags.
• Reliable, self-motivated and able to work independently in a busy environment.

What To Expect

This role is physically demanding and fast-paced:

• Walking long distances (up to 12 miles / 20,000+ steps)
• Driving a Royal Mail van daily
• Working in all weather conditions
• Delivering letters and high volumes of parcels
• Busy, time-pressured days, especially during peak periods

About You

We’ll provide full training, a uniform, and an iconic red van. You’ll need:

• A full manual UK driving licence (maximum 6 penalty points, registered to your current name and address)
• Willingness to drive a Royal Mail van daily and able to pass a driving assessment
• Physically fit and comfortable walking long distances, climbing stairs / hills, and lifting / carrying 10kg+ mailbags
• Reliable and self-motivated
• Strong organisation and resilience in a busy environment
• Customer-focused, with pride in delivering great service
• Comfortable working outdoors and independently
