Harrow School is offering an opportunity for a Post Graduate Assistant Teacher (PGAT) of Classics. The appointment is a fixed-term contract, typically for one academic year, with potential renewal for a second year. The role includes benefits such as rent-free accommodation, free health cover for the appointee and possibly immediate family, and free meals during term time.
PGATs teach a reduced timetable, generally no more than 20 lessons of 40 minutes per week, and support the department in various capacities. The School provides training related to teaching and transferable skills, ideal for those aspiring to a teaching career or seeking skills applicable in fields like banking, consultancy, or law.
The Classics Department is vibrant, comprising eight teachers covering Latin, Classical Greek, and Ancient History at GCSE and A level, with excellent results. The department contributes to the Elective programme and supports students in university applications, including Oxbridge and US institutions.
Latin is compulsory in Year 9, with a strong cohort continuing to GCSE and A level. Classical Greek and Ancient History are also popular, with various extracurricular activities including trips abroad, dramatic performances, and competitions.
