Overview

Full-Time, Fixed-term appointment to 30th November 2026. The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and skilled Post-doctoral Research Associate to join the Department of Clinical Sciences. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to an Innovate UK-funded research programme aimed at developing a pre-clinical pipeline for vaccine evaluation. The research will leverage advanced human tissue models to investigate immune responses and evaluate efficacy against respiratory viral pathogens, with a primary focus on influenza. The successful candidate will work at the forefront of translational immunology, helping to bridge the gap between fundamental research and real-world vaccine development. This position provides a unique opportunity to contribute to translational research with significant potential for public health impact. You will be part of a vibrant, interdisciplinary team, working at the interface of academia and industry.

Responsibilities
  • Support production of new SOPs and risk assessments
  • Preparation of stock compounds and reagents
  • Preparation of cell culture media
  • Maintenance of mammalian cell cultures
  • Viral stock propagation and storage
  • Plan and perform experiments independently according to established protocols
  • Support collaborative research activities within the group
  • Support the work of research students
  • Identify and report project risks and opportunities
  • Lead in paper writing activities
  • Communicate data via appropriate mediums
Qualifications
  • PhD in Biological Sciences (or related discipline)
  • Experience generating laboratory data and maintaining accurate records
  • Experience publishing high-quality research in peer-reviewed journals
  • Experience in mammalian and viral cell culture
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
