This is a rewarding and dynamic role for someone who is passionate about supporting students beyond secondary education, helping them gain the confidence, independence, and skills needed for adulthood. Be part of a team that values inclusivity, professional growth, and a shared commitment to student success. Role Overview: The Post-16 Support Assistant plays a key role in the day-to-day educational experience of learners aged 16 and above, offering tailored support that fosters academic progress, personal development, and life skills. This includes supporting lessons, vocational activities, and social integration, while helping to maintain a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment. Key Responsibilities: Work alongside teaching staff to support students with SEND during classroom and vocational sessions. Deliver 1:1 or small-group support based on individual learning plans. Assist in preparing and adapting learning materials to meet varied student needs. Support students in developing communication, social, and practical life skills. Play an active role in implementing and reviewing Individual Education Plans (IEPs). Provide encouragement, structure, and a calm presence in both academic and non-academic settings. Foster a respectful, inclusive environment where all learners feel safe and supported. Requirements: Previous experience supporting individuals with SEND, particularly in a post-16 or similar setting. Strong communication, empathy, and behaviour management skills. A proactive and patient approach to learning and development. Relevant education or support qualifications (desirable but not essential). Enhanced DBS check covering child and adult workforce (or willingness to obtain one). What’s on Offer: Competitive hourly rate depending on experience. 13 weeks of annual leave in line with the academic calendar. Access to the AXCIS Academy — free online training modules covering a wide range of SEN topics, ideal for continuous professional development. A supportive, collaborative working environment where your voice is valued. Opportunities for career progression within a growing and inclusive college. This is more than a job — it’s a chance to be a meaningful part of a young person’s journey toward independence and a fulfilling adult life. If you're calm, resourceful, and genuinely passionate about inclusive education, this could be the perfect next step in your career.
