Reading Borough Council is seeking a Post 16 Education Officer to support the Virtual School for looked after children and care leavers aged 16–19. You will coordinate, attend, quality assure and record Personal Education Plans (PEPs) and work with colleges, carers, social workers and teachers to maximise funding and interventions.

You will be pivotal in monitoring attendance and ensuring high-quality support while advocating for care-experienced young people within a collaborative Reading team.

Formación

• GCSEs English and Maths (Grade 4/C or above) or equivalent.
• Evidence of ongoing professional development and a relevant professional qualification or equivalent experience.
• Experience of working with children, young people and families.
• Significant experience within further education or related educational environment.
• Experience of supporting young people aged 16+.
• Understanding of Children Looked After and advocacy role.
• Experience working in partnership across multiple agencies.
• Knowledge/experience of Virtual School practice.
• Experience of trauma-informed, attachment-aware and therapeutic approaches.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsabilidades

• Prepare for, attend, quality assure and record Personal Education Plan (PEP) meetings.
• Support carers, foster parents, social workers and designated teachers to complete high-quality PEPs.
• Help ensure young people have a record of their educational journey and achievements.
• Work with colleges, sixth forms and training providers to maximise Post 16 funding.
• Monitor attendance and support interventions to improve participation.
• Attend Post 16 Network Meetings and collaborate with professionals.
• Promote the educational achievement of looked-after children aged 16-19.
• Advocate for care-experienced young people and coordinate with partners.
