Gateholme is set in the lovely countryside surroundings of Carr Gate, in Wakefield. Our home offers residential support for 39 males and females with a variety of needs, including individuals with a learning disability, autistic people, and those with complex needs.

The PBS practitioner will work closely with the people we support, colleague teams and stakeholders to develop and deliver Positive Behaviour Support. There may be a need to provide support across the North Central Region and driving is essential for the role. There will be expectancy to deliver PROACT-SCIPrUK training - full training will be provided.

The post holder will use their expertise to support predominantly in the following areas:

  1. Implementation of Capable Environments including Active Support approaches
  2. Development and implementation of Positive Behaviour Support Plans including Functional Behaviour Assessment
  3. Practice Leadership and Practice workshops
  4. Incident support, analysis and colleague debrief
  5. Staff training & development

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have extensive experience of direct support experience with people with a learning disability/ Autism
  • Hold a formal qualification in Positive Behaviour Support, e.g., BSc in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, MSc Applied Behaviour Analysis, MA or MSc in Autism Studies, PBS Graduate Diploma, PBS BTEC Level 5 (advanced professional Diploma)
  • Be qualified or willing and able to work towards PROACT-SCIPr-UK Instructor

In addition, the candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Person centred beliefs, values and attitudes
  • Excellent communication skills
  • The ability to work as part of a team in a leadership capacity, leading and influencing others positively
  • An in depth understanding of the principles of Positive Behaviour Support and of Applied Behaviour Analysis
  • A history in conducting behavioural assessments and developing, implementing and evaluating interventions for individuals
  • A history of reducing the use of restrictive practices
  • A history of the delivery of Positive Behaviour Support training
  • Excellent record keeping and written skills including report writing
  • Detailed understanding of the legal frameworks and policy relevant to the role, e.g., Mental Capacity Act (2005), DOLS, Safeguarding, risk management
