Head of Editorial at Breaking Media Limited

Portsmouth Writer - Breaking Media Ltd

About the job

Salary: Competitive guaranteed monthly pay + achievable, monthly bonus scheme

Type: Contract (Self-employed)

Location : 100% remote (UK-based applicants only)

Breaking Media are recruiting passionate and knowledgeable full-time football writers to cover stories about multiple football teams. The role requires writing predominantly about Portsmouth FC but can also include coverage of a variety of other top British football clubs.

About the role

Football writers are asked to research, source and create engaging content while adhering to Breaking Media’s editorial standards.

All of our roles are contract-based, and to ensure the best newsday coverage, we schedule our writers to work eight hours a day, five days a week (including at least one day at the weekend). Shift start times are usually at 6am, 9am, 12pm and 2pm, although this can vary.

We also offer 20 days of paid annual leave, running from January to December each year. After two years of service, this rises to 23 days and each year after it rises by one extra day up until a maximum of 27 days.

Our contracts stipulate that writers cannot contribute written work to other online football websites.

What we are looking for

We are looking for independent, creative and forward-thinking UK-based candidates who have a degree in sports journalism or equivalent experience in professional football writing. Applicants must be genuine Portsmouth fans who have previous experience writing about Pompey in a professional setting.

Applicants must also be comfortable with interviewing, as the role is likely to entail speaking regularly to an expert about the club.

All applicants are expected to possess excellent communication skills, well-developed keyboard skills and meticulous attention to detail. Timekeeping and organisation are key to this role as you will need to manage your own workload and ensure that you are meeting the minimum number of stories required per shift.

How to apply

Send a CV and a short summary of your application to our jobs email address: jobvacancies@breakingmedialimited.com . Alternatively, keep an eye out for job adverts on LinkedIn. Hiring managers are Head of Editorial, Danny Wright and Assistant Editor, Peter Hanson.

Next steps

If you are successful in your application, the next steps will be to take part in a trial shift where we can assess the quality of your writing, your communication skills and your ability to work, learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment. Prior to this trial, you may be set a simple writing task to help narrow down candidates if the role receives a lot of interest.
