Ports Field Intelligence Development Officer

Location: Port of Tilbury (London), Leslie Ford House, Tilbury, Essex

Salary: Scale 6 £32,247 - £34,329 per annum

Job Type: Temporary up to 6 months with a possibility of becoming permanent

About the Role

The main investigation function of the service is motor finance fraud and related offences linked to serious acquisitive crime, impacting victims, communities, the national economy, and law enforcement agencies. Through effective partnership working, the service aims to prevent and detect motor finance fraud, developing and sharing specialist intelligence to support investigations.

Officers at ports collaborate with partner agencies to prevent the export of stolen cars overseas. Their intelligence department maintains strong links with European law enforcement agencies.

We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join us as a Field Intelligence Officer within a National Policing Unit, working to ensure safer communities in the UK and internationally.

Responsibilities
  • Based at the Port of Tilbury, lead efforts to identify and recover stolen vehicles being exported through UK ports via intelligence development and partnership working.
  • Conduct basic crime investigations supporting national policing objectives.
  • Engage in intelligence activities including searches to identify and seize stolen property, and potentially attend court to give evidence.
  • Liaise with stakeholders and industry partners.
  • Possess knowledge of vehicle identification, theft, and cloning methods.

Occasional travel is required; a company car will be provided.

Skills and Qualifications
  • Educated to QCF Level 3 or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in evidence gathering and intelligence work.
  • Knowledge of criminal law, criminal justice system, CPIA, IPA, NIM, CHIS code of practice, intelligence, and investigation procedures.
  • Strong report writing and communication skills, capable of producing clear records, reports, and delivering presentations.
  • Qualified vehicle examiner or willing to attend and complete the vehicle examiner course.
