Job description

Location: Port of Tilbury (London), Leslie Ford House, Tilbury, Essex

Salary: Scale 6 A GBP 32,247 - GBP 34,329 per annum

Job Type: Temporary up to 6 months with a possibility of becoming permanent

The main investigative function is motor finance fraud and related offences linked to serious acquisitive crime impacting victims, communities, the economy, and law enforcement agencies. The role involves effective partnership working to prevent and detect motor finance fraud, developing and sharing specialist intelligence to support investigations.

Officers at ports collaborate with partner agencies to prevent the export of stolen cars overseas, with strong links to European law enforcement.

They seek an experienced and motivated individual for the position of Field Intelligence Officer within a National Policing Unit, working to ensure safer communities in the UK and globally.

The Role

Based at The Port of Tilbury, you will lead efforts in identifying and recovering stolen vehicles being exported through UK ports via intelligence development and partnership working. You will conduct basic crime investigations supporting national policing objectives.

This role involves a range of intelligence activities, including searches to seize stolen property, and may include court attendance and giving evidence.

Liaison with stakeholders and industry partners is essential. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of vehicle identification, theft, and cloning methods.

Occasional travel is required; a car is provided.

Skills And Qualifications
  • Educated to QCF Level 3 or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience in evidence gathering and intelligence work.
  • Knowledge of criminal law, the criminal justice system, CPIA, IPA, NIM, CHIS code of practice, intelligence, and investigation procedures.
  • Strong report writing and communication skills, including clear records, reports, and verbal presentations.
  • Qualified vehicle examiner or willingness to complete the vehicle examiner course.
