About the role

Ecclesiastical Insurance, part of Benefact Group, is seeking a Casualty Portfolio Underwriter to join our team.

This key role supports the Casualty Underwriting Manager and Director across various elements of a broad and diverse Casualty Account, helping the Group deliver its charitable ambitions.

Responsibilities include portfolio monitoring, controls & development, case referrals, risk appetite & underwriting guide development, and technical policy documentation oversight. The role involves liaising with senior management and external partners.

Key responsibilities
  • Support profitable account development and delivery
  • Develop and maintain policy wordings, ensuring compliance with regulations, and liaising with various functions
  • Recommend updates to risk appetite, underwriting guidance, and policy wording
  • Stay informed on market opportunities and threats, providing strategic recommendations
  • Serve as a technical referral point and train staff on technical matters
  • Act as a niche specialist to enhance relationships with brokers and partners
  • Contribute to pricing reviews and collaborate with actuarial teams
  • Ensure underwriting quality through coaching and audits
  • Lead end-to-end projects within set timescales
  • Support all aspects of underwriting as needed
Knowledge, skills and experience
  • Diploma in CII, aiming for ACII
  • Relevant experience in commercial insurance
  • Strong property underwriting knowledge
  • Knowledge of commercial and retail policy wordings
  • Experience in drafting policy documents is advantageous
  • Experience in real estate/property ownership beneficial
  • Experience with property surplus treaties and project leadership advantageous
  • Ability to influence stakeholders
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
