A prominent healthcare provider in the UK is advertising a position within their CESR programme. This role involves clinical responsibilities across multiple sites, focusing on the training and development of staff as well as managing patient care. The successful applicant will have opportunities for professional growth and benefit from ongoing support. The role is flexible to accommodate training needs and includes leadership training.
A Vacancy at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. We are advertising posts in our well established CESR programme at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.
The CESR programme is expected to require 3-5 years for completion in most cases. The contract is initially for 12 months, but will be reviewed annually and extended on a mutually agreed basis, based on successful completion of required competencies at annual review. The posts are intended to offer the clinician access to the support and training required to complete all aspects of the CESR process pending successful progression through the programme. It will be possible to provide specific secondment-style modules in the CESR programme, to address relevant educational and competency needs.
This post will usually rotate through both Royal Derby Hospital (RDH) and Queens Hospital Burton (QHB) to give a breadth of training experience. For significantly less than full time positions this can be negotiated as to be based at RDH but may occasionally involve some cross site working dependent upon the service need.
Duties will be split between winter pressure services in winter and specific training needs in the other months. This might include Orthogeriatrics, mental health liaison or surgical liaison. The timetable can be flexible and tailored to the successful applicant's training needs and requirements.
Weekly timetable (illustrative): Monday to Friday - AM/PM blocks including Audit and professional development; Orthogeriatrics/ward work; Surgical liaison and referrals; Falls clinic; leadership and winter ward responsibilities; and clinical duties including senior ward reviews and supervision of junior doctors. The post holder will be expected to prioritise and time-manage effectively according to department activity and utilise available senior staff for advice. Work-based placed assessments to document development are encouraged. Education is an important part of the role and the post holder will be involved in supporting training of all staff levels (medical, nursing, allied health professions) including students and trainees.
Inpatient:
RDH 4 base wards and outliers/winter ward; QHB 2 base wards and outliers/winter ward; support wards with senior cover, lead daily winter rounds, and provide senior ward reviews when consultants are unavailable.
Referrals:
Provide at least one session per week to support the liaison service and inpatient referrals. This can be increased during lower winter pressures to ensure adequate training for CESR progression. Outpatient clinics: when not on winter pressures, provide one falls/frailty clinic per week.
Clinical duties include leadership of acutely ill frail older patients; development of leadership qualities through supervision of junior doctors and their education. The post holder should prioritise time management and utilise senior staff for advice.
Education and training are integral. The post holder will support training of medical, nursing and allied health professionals. Departments regularly engage Student Nurses, Doctors, ACPs, Therapies and Pharmacy students.
There will be an out-of-hour rota to support the acute medicine and HOOH service at the QHB and RDH sites. The Trust values Compassion, Openness and Excellence and aims to provide Exceptional Care Together.
