Job summary

Ball Corporation in Luton is seeking a Portfolio Manager, Strategy & Commercial Operations on a maternity cover basis. You will join the EMEA Strategy & Agenda team, supporting cross-functional initiatives across commercial, analytics and operations, translating data into clear business recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Degree-level education in business, science, engineering, analytics or related discipline.
  • Experience leading programmes or cross-functional projects in global/complex environments.
  • Experience coordinating multicultural and geographically dispersed teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Experience turning data into business recommendations and communications.
  • Experience across commercial, strategy, operations, supply chain, finance or analytics.
  • Experience supporting executive reviews, strategic projects or business planning.
  • Desirable: Commercial, Strategy, Analytics, Finance, Supply Chain, Logistics or Procurement.
  • Strong data literacy and ability to interpret outputs.
  • PM tools and governance for complex initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end strategic initiatives and complex cross-functional programmes and projects.
  • Coordinate internal and third-party resources to deliver outcomes on time, within scope and within budget.
  • Develop clear project scopes, objectives, plans, milestones and governance with relevant stakeholders.
  • Manage dependencies, resources, risks, issues, changes and decisions across workstreams.
  • Monitor performance, maintain project documentation and report or escalate to management as required.
  • Support strategy deployment by driving key initiatives that contribute to sustainable business growth.
  • Help maintain portfolio visibility, including progress, risks, dependencies, decisions and resource requirements.
  • Support the Director Strategy & Agenda with programme management processes, tools and templates that enable regional and global collaboration
  • Analyse and interpret data from multiple business sources to identify trends, risks and opportunities.
  • Translate analytical outputs into clear business insights, recommendations and compelling narratives for business stakeholders.
  • Support the preparation of business reviews, presentations, management updates and strategic discussions.
  • Work with analytics, commercial, operations and finance teams to convert data into actionable business decisions.

Position overview:

Member of the EMEA Strategy & Agenda team, reporting to the Director Strategy & Agenda, with dotted-line collaboration into Commercial Operations & Analysis. Provides flexible support across Strategy & Agenda and Commercial Operations during the parental leave period, helping maintain delivery of the existing portfolio while providing capacity to respond to new business priorities. Combines strong project and programme management capability with data literacy and business insight generation. Supports the organisation by translating analytical outputs into clear business recommendations, coordinating cross-functional activities and enabling effective decision-making. Acts as a connector across functions, helping teams prioritise, align resources and deliver strategic initiatives and key business projects.

Key responsibilities include:

What are we looking for?

  • Degree-level education in business, science, engineering, analytics or a related discipline.
  • Experience leading programmes or significant cross-functional projects within a global organisation or complex business environment.
  • Experience coordinating multicultural and geographically dispersed teams and senior stakeholders.
  • Experience turning data and analysis into business recommendations and management communications.
  • Experience working across commercial, strategy, operations, supply chain, finance or analytics environments.
  • Experience supporting executive reviews, strategic projects or business-planning activities.
  • Functional experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable: Commercial, Strategy, Analytics, Finance, Supply Chain, Logistics or Procurement.
  • Strong data literacy and the ability to understand, interpret and communicate analytical outputs.
  • Project and programme management tools, methods and practices appropriate for complex cross-functional initiatives.
  • Understanding of business performance drivers, portfolio management and strategic planning processes.
  • Strong working knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint; experience with Power BI, Word, SharePoint and project-management tools is desirable.
