Job description

Job Description

Portfolio Associate (Financial Institution Finance)

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) is a multilateral development bank whose mission is "Financing Infrastructure for Tomorrow" in Asia and beyond—focusing on infrastructure with sustainability at its core. Established in Beijing in 2016, AIIB has grown to 110 approved members worldwide. Capitalized at USD 100 billion and rated AAA by major credit rating agencies, AIIB collaborates with partners to meet client needs by unlocking new capital and investing in green, technology-enabled infrastructure that promotes regional connectivity.

AIIB's Portfolio Management Department (PMD) is responsible for monitoring AIIB's rapidly growing investment portfolio, which includes loans and equity investments with or without sovereign guarantees. PMD assists management and project teams to ensure portfolio quality. Main functions include monitoring the entire Investment Operations (IO) portfolio, managing non-sovereign-backed financing assets, coordinating IT system design and implementation, and providing Secretariat services to the Investment Committee.

PMD is recruiting a Portfolio Associate for its Project & Asset Management (PAM) function. The Associate, reporting to a Senior Portfolio Officer (SPO), will analyze the Bank's loans, bonds, guarantees, and risk participation facilities within the Financial Institution (FI) lending portfolio, including banks and non-bank financial institutions, with or without sovereign guarantees. The role focuses on monitoring to ensure portfolio quality, providing analysis, and delivering analytical outputs to support strategic development impact and financial sustainability.

Responsibilities:
  1. Analyze financial statements of Loan assets provided by AIIB to Financial Institutions (FI), including banks and non-bank financial institutions, assessing performance and project objectives, and conducting scenario analysis with financial models.
  2. Review and assess project documentation (progress, technical, insurance, environmental, social reports), ensuring compliance with disbursement conditions and policies.
  3. Monitor the financial performance of FI loans against facility agreements, including ESG reporting requirements, ensuring compliance and progress.
  4. Perform analytical tasks on operational, country, and sectoral issues within the Loan portfolio, interpreting data and proposing actions.
  5. Assist SPOs in developing approaches to operational, country, and sectoral issues, mitigating risks, and aligning projects with objectives.
  6. Support SPOs in advising FI borrowers and external stakeholders on loan covenants and reporting, providing insights and remedial measures.
  7. Deliver timely services, analyses, and outputs to support the Bank's investment pipeline.
Requirements:
  • 4-7 years of experience in monitoring FI loan assets, including banks and non-bank financial institutions.
  • Master's or bachelor's degree in economics, finance, business administration, chartered accountancy, or related fields.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of a second language is desirable.
  • Strong analytical skills, experience in financial modeling and analysis, and collaborative ability.
  • Knowledge of major infrastructure sectors (energy, transport, water, urban development) is desirable.
