Join our dedicated team in NHSBT organ donation and transplantation. You’ll be part of a programme team at the forefront of organ transplantation projects, ultimately saving and improving lives.

The establishment of a national Assessment and Recovery Centre (ARC) service will extend equitable access to life-saving products and treatments to everyone that needs them and bridge the gap between shortage of organs available and demand.

You will have a proven track record in managing large scale transformation change programmes, will have an innovative, problem-solving approach, with strong stakeholder management skills and experience in implementing risk management and governance processes. Note: This role offers a hybrid working arrangement. However, you will be assigned a base location at one of NHSBT’s main centres. The final base location will be confirmed after the final interview and mutually agreed upon with the line manager during the verbal offer stage.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will be responsible for ensuring effective planning and oversight of delivery of the Assessment and Recovery Centres Programme in line with the approved strategic outline case budget and schedule. Your responsibilities will include:

Working with the SRO and Programme Lead to engage stakeholders within and across the transplant health system to gather requirements and provide effective tools to plan programme delivery.

Developing and implementing long term strategic plans which need to align with the wider NSHBT strategies and context development and support the development of the outline business case.

Working closely with other programme and portfolio managers / leads in the directorate and across the organisation to ensure alignment on assumptions of cross-directorate resourcing and interdependencies for delivery within agreed time, cost and quality standards, and within risk limits.

Managing the interfaces and communications with the senior stakeholders, including the Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) as well a Clinical, Finance, Digital, Operational, Commercial and People and Culture Leads.

Preparing and maintaining programme plans and publishing these to the SRO and programme and change portfolio boards as required, responding to challenge and questions about progress on delivery.

The matrix management of programme team members as well as project management staff, including setting and monitoring objectives and development plans ensuring that they are highly motivated, operate to the highest professional standards, and comply with all relevant internal and external standards, regulations and instructions, including Quality Assurance, GMP and building regulations.

The development and ongoing management of partnerships with external suppliers.

Undertaking health and assurance checks for the ARCs programme, liaising with the central team for assurance input (internal and external) Communicating service-related information to decision makers, the Central Programme Management Office (CPMO), Business Lead, programme and project teams to achieve positive business outcomes.

Participate in the development and improvement of the NHSBT Strategy, Portfolio, Programme and Project Management tools and methods.

About You

Experience and Knowledge

Proven ability to manage multi-million-pound projects and their associated budgets

Experience of reporting to Executive and Board level.

First-hand experience of the application of Risk Assessment and Risk Management techniques appropriate to business needs.

Extensive experience of working with a variety of project methodologies (PMI/Prince 2), tools and standards of service delivery and vendor evaluation using formal programme and project management tools for the full life-cycle of large scale projects.

Extensive experience of creating business cases, capturing business requirements and business benefits management and realisation.

Proven experience of conducting post implementation reviews.

Proven resource management and allocation experience, including those not under direct line management control.

Extensive knowledge and experience of Microsoft Office products, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Specialist knowledge of Microsoft Project

Qualifications and Training

Educated to master’s degree level in relevant subject or equivalent experience plus highly developed, in-depth experience, specialist knowledge, expertise and qualifications as specified below.

Practitioner Certificate in PRINCE 2 or similar related level of qualification

ITIL Foundation certificate, or equivalent/demonstrable work experience.
