Overview

We are looking for reliable, caring, and motivated Porters to join our Healthcare Support Services team at North Devon District Hospital. This is a vital role that ensures the safe and efficient movement of patients, equipment, and materials across the hospital, helping to keep essential services running smoothly.


Responsibilities


  • Safely transport patients via wheelchair, stretcher, or bed between wards and departments.

  • Deliver specimens, medical records, pharmacy items, and equipment across the hospital.

  • Support clinical teams during emergencies, including attending cardiac arrests with the resus trolley.

  • Remove clinical and non-clinical waste, linen, and recycling, ensuring safe and hygienic practices.

  • Assist with patient handling and transfers, following safe manual handling procedures.

  • Maintain cleanliness of porters\' lodges, equipment, and designated areas.

  • Provide professional and courteous assistance to patients, staff, and visitors.

  • Uphold health and safety standards, infection control policies, and confidentiality requirements.

  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills (NVQ Level 1/2 desirable).

  • Previous portering or healthcare experience (desirable but not essential).

  • Good communication skills and a strong customer service approach.

  • Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and as part of a team.

  • Physically fit and able to carry out manual handling tasks.

  • Flexible to work across different shifts, including weekends.

  • Professional, caring, and respectful attitude at all times.
