We are looking for reliable, caring, and motivated Porters to join our Healthcare Support Services team at North Devon District Hospital. This is a vital role that ensures the safe and efficient movement of patients, equipment, and materials across the hospital, helping to keep essential services running smoothly.
Key responsibilities include:
- Safely transport patients via wheelchair, stretcher, or bed between wards and departments.
- Deliver specimens, medical records, pharmacy items, and equipment across the hospital.
- Support clinical teams during emergencies, including attending cardiac arrests with the resus trolley.
- Remove clinical and non-clinical waste, linen, and recycling, ensuring safe and hygienic practices.
- Assist with patient handling and transfers, following safe manual handling procedures.
- Maintain cleanliness of porters' lodges, equipment, and designated areas.
- Provide professional and courteous assistance to patients, staff, and visitors.
- Uphold health and safety standards, infection control policies, and confidentiality requirements.
Requirements:
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills (NVQ Level 1/2 desirable).
- Previous portering or healthcare experience (desirable but not essential).
- Good communication skills and a strong customer service approach.
- Ability to follow instructions, work independently, and as part of a team.
- Physically fit and able to carry out manual handling tasks.
- Flexible to work across different shifts, including weekends.
- Professional, caring, and respectful attitude at all times.
