A number of opportunities have arisen for Porter / Drivers to join our busy Portering Team on a permanent basis at the Kirkcaldy Victoria & Whytemans Brae Hospital sites.

Hours available are:

POST 1: 37 hours (full-time)
POST 2: 22 hours (part-time)
POST 3: BANK (as and when required)

The Portering Service operates 24 hours, 7 days per week. All positions working hours can be altered and determined by the service delivery of the department requirements; this includes working dayshift, backshift, weekends and nightshifts.

Porter / Drivers duties vary from patient movement throughout the hospital, collection and delivery of specimens, delivery of stores, meal trolley, linen lockers, parcels and pharmacy to wards and departments. Waste uplift and exchanging of bins, including clinical hospital waste. Porters can walk a high number of miles on a daily basis and this can be physically challenging.

Manual handling element includes moving heavy items across a various distances in challenging environments. Sole working is expected at various times ensuring you maintain a safe clean working environment for the delivery of the services at all times. Understanding and follow health & safety procedure at all times whilst on shift.

You must have good communication skills, and have a caring & compassionate attitude given the nature of the role interacting with patients, wards, department, members of the public, colleagues and other NHS staff members.

We operate a Zero Tolerance department in line with NHS Fife Values.

A full UK driving license is required to enable you to drive NHS Fife vehicles, and also electric tugs to transport items internally within the Victoria Hospital.

Full training, and one to one coaching supplied, including attendance at all mandatory training course. Some training courses are conducted online.
