Job Summary

Synchronicity Care Limited (SCL)/CDD Services, a wholly owned subsidiary of County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust (CDDFT), provides non-clinical Estates, Facilities, and Procurement services to CDDFT. We are seeking a conscientious, flexible, enthusiastic, and customer-focused individual to join our Portering and Transport Team at Darlington Memorial Hospital (DMH).

Main Duties

Porter/Drivers support the Trust’s clinical teams by moving patients and supplies within the DMH site. Candidates should be of smart appearance, communicate well at all levels, remain calm in emergencies, follow instructions, prioritize tasks, and work independently. Experience with hospital functions, public interaction, and driving is desirable but full training will be provided. Flexibility for shifts, weekends, bank holidays, and possible work at other sites within the Trust is required. All posts are subject to a 6-month probation period.

About Us

CDD Services / SCL is a separate legal entity owned by CDDFT, offering its own terms and conditions of employment, which include a competitive salary, performance bonuses, pension contributions, night shift allowances, and bank holiday allowances. Bank work is on an 'as and when' basis, paid pro-rata.

Job Responsibilities

Provide high-quality portering and transport services, maintaining service continuity and adhering to policies and procedures. Duties include:

• Patient movement
• Transport of supplies and equipment
• Cleaning and maintaining equipment
• Waste management, linen collection, deliveries
• Collection and delivery of specimens, pharmacy items, notes
• Postal duties
• Mortuary duties
• Responding to emergencies
• Transporting medical gas cylinders
• Assisting staff and moving furniture/equipment
• Other duties as required

The role requires flexibility and cooperation to meet departmental and business needs.

Person Specification

Essential Skills & Knowledge

• Ability to take instructions, prioritize, and act on own initiative
• Good verbal and written communication skills

Desirable Skills & Knowledge

• NVQ Level 2 in Customer Care
• Full UK Driving License and proven driving experience
• Understanding of hospital functions
