Job description

We have an opportunity for a Porter to join their team of staff in the Portering department.

This is a full-time role of 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern consisting of 12-hour shifts over days and nights. Typical shifts are: 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am. The hospital is open 7 days per week. There is an enhanced pay rate for unsocial hours and bank holidays as required.

Undertake a range of general and ad hoc tasks on a day-to-day basis to meet the requirements of the site such as patient, equipment, and goods (e.g., pharmacy goods) movement.

Job responsibilities

Duties of this role include:

  • Undertake a range of general and ad hoc tasks on a day-to-day basis to meet the requirements of the site such as patient, equipment, and goods (e.g., pharmacy goods) movement.
  • Explain hospital facilities and services to patients and family members when escorting people to rooms or other hospital areas.
  • Provide a courteous service to internal and external customers.
  • Ensure patient comfort and dignity are always maintained.
  • Provide security for the facility as required within each specific hospital, ensuring compliance of security processes and external patrols are covered as appropriate to the hospital.
  • Comply with all relevant mandatory training.
Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Applicants should meet the following criteria:
  • Front line customer facing experience.
  • Previous portering experience in a healthcare, hotel or hospitality setting.
  • Maths, English GCSE at grades A to C or equivalent functional skills level 2 evidence.
  • Proficiency in the use of a PC, including the use of software and systems.
  • Must hold a full clean driving licence and be able to drive both a manual and an automatic car.
