Job description

An exciting opportunity exists for several highly motivated individuals to join our Portering Services and be part of a front line team enhancing patient experience by delivering a high quality and efficient Portering service. The post holders will be required to carry out Portering duties in the hospital. This role will require constant contact with all staff, Heads of departments, Medical staff, visitors and patients.

Based at Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport, you will be required to carry out Portering Services across the hospital.

Main duties of the job
  • Transport patients anywhere in hospital using wheelchairs, trolleys and/or beds
  • Use the Trust electronic system / radio to communicate and receive jobs
  • Change oxygen and other gas cylinders following training
  • Move mattresses and beds, complying with Trust manual handling techniques
  • Move dirty laundry and replace with clean linen
  • Collect/deliver drugs and samples to/from pharmacy/wards/departments
  • Carry out all waste management functions as requested
  • Transport meal trolleys to and from wards and to and from the kitchen.
  • Use electric tugs to move food trolleys and heavy equipment around the site
  • Move equipment safely throughout the hospital
  • Move office furniture and equipment
  • Move wards as and when required
  • Transport deceased patients to mortuary with dignity
  • Fire warden duties as and when required
  • Assist Security Officers as and when required
  • Respond to any MAJAX incident showing care and compassion to patients and visitors
  • Ensuring that correct and safe methods of work are employed at all times with extra care shown to the safety of patients, staff and visitors.
  • Checking of equipment prior to use to ensure all faults are reported to the supervisor as they develop.
  • Reporting any accidents / dangerous occurrences to the Supervisors and participating in the completion of all related accident documentation.
  • Attend relevant statutory and non-statutory training.
  • Carry out duties in accordance with departmental training and Trust policies and codes of practice.

If successful this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £54.90. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary.

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.
