Job description

We are looking for a passionate Porter to join our exciting and busy Racecourse!!

At ARC we embrace diversity, we develop our people, we care for our visitors, we think about our impact and we are proud of our sport.

Who is Doncaster Racecourse?

Doncaster Racecourse isn’t just about horse racing – though we’re proud to be home to the world’s oldest classic race, the St. Leger! We're a vibrant, year-round venue that welcomes over 500,000 guests annually to a packed calendar of events – from race days and weddings to conferences, craft fairs, boxing matches, car shows, and much more.

What’s it like as a porter with us at Doncaster Racecourse?

No two days are ever the same. One day you could be helping to set up a conference for 24 guests—or 1,000. The next, you might be transforming that same space into a fully equipped boxing arena, complete with a dining area and staging. When event day arrives, you’ll be right in the thick of it—working closely with clients and the event management team to ensure everything runs like clockwork.

We’re looking for a proactive and adaptable individual to join our events team in a varied, hands-on role. As a Porter, you’ll play a vital part in the setup, delivery, and breakdown of a wide range of events. You’ll be involved in all aspects of operations—from preparing venues and assisting with food & beverage service to supporting cellar and bar logistics, and liaising with clients to help deliver a seamless experience.

Please note: This role operates across a 7-day schedule and often involves working unsociable hours. For example, we may host a large conference on a Friday, followed by a raceday on Saturday and an Antiques Fair on Sunday. As such, shifts can be long to support with the turnaround and physically demanding, requiring stamina, flexibility, and a strong work ethic.

Responsibilities for the successful Porter include (but not limited to):

  • Take responsibility for the setup and arrangement of furniture, fixtures, and event infrastructure across all racecourse areas for both race days and non-race events.
  • Follow direction from the Staffing Manager to ensure all event spaces are immaculately presented, including accurate placement of linen, tableware, and décor, in accordance with operational standards.
  • Assist in the movement, delivery, and distribution of stock to support hospitality and retail operations across the site.
  • Support the build and dismantling of temporary structures, retail units, and event setups, ensuring efficient and timely execution.
  • Play an active role in the setup and delivery of large-scale conferences, functions, and catered events, adapting to the specific needs of each occasion.
  • Set up, operate, and maintain on-site AV equipment for both internal teams and external clients, ensuring all technical aspects are functioning effectively during events.
  • Provide a professional, friendly, and helpful point of contact for clients and guests during race days and private events, reflecting the venue’s high standards of service.
  • Liaise with external contractors and clients to ensure all activities comply with Doncaster Racecourse’s policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a safe working environment at all times, adhering to company Health & Safety guidelines and promoting safe practices among colleagues and contractors.
  • Safely operate a range of site equipment and machinery, including scissor lifts, cleaning tools, and other necessary devices.
  • Carry out any additional tasks as requested by the Staffing Manager or members of the Senior Management Team.
  • Show flexibility and a can-do attitude, particularly during evenings, weekends, and peak event periods, in support of the venue’s operational demands.

The person we are looking for as a Porter has….

  • Experience of leading and managing a team of people.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in the hospitality industry.
  • High attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills – able to communicate at all levels.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work to strict pressured deadlines.

Work Perks of being a Porter with us at ARC…

  • 2 Annual Members passes, giving access to over 1500 racedays
  • Hotel Discounts and Complimentary Golf
  • Annual leave starting at 22 days increasing up to 28 in line with length of service
  • Pension & Group life assurance schemes
  • Healthshield – including 24hr GP & EAP

…and so much more!

If you’re practical, energetic, and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment where no two days are alike, we’d love to hear from you.
