Job description

Working Full time:

37.5 hours per week

Please note, we are looking to appoint for 6 full-time vacancies:

  1. 2 x Monday-Friday - 12pm-8pm
  2. 1 x Monday-Friday - 2pm-10pm
  3. 3 x Multishifts following a "4 on, 4 off" shift pattern - 6am - 6pm and 6pm-6am

Porters provide support and assistance to all healthcare professionals and areas of the Trust.

The role involves working under the direction of the Portering Chargehand and covering a wide range of duties including transporting patients, specimens, beds, meal trolleys, medical gases, linen, and other essential items/supplies.

We ask all employees to be flexible in their roles to ensure we deliver safe, kind, and effective care.

Interviews will be held on 27th & 28th August 2025.

As part of ongoing organisational changes within the Facilities Department, we are recruiting enthusiastic porters to join our team.

The successful candidate will work closely with Chargehand Porters and the Assistant Facilities Manager, demonstrating excellent communication skills and experience in dealing with the public.

Candidates must be able to lift, carry, and handle, with a significant amount of walking and patient transfer involved.

Trustworthiness, reliability, and confidentiality are essential.

Applicants will receive training for all aspects of the role and will gain an understanding of all tasks involved.

The Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust provides services to West Cheshire and Welsh patients covered by Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. The Trust works collaboratively within the Cheshire and Merseyside Health and Care Partnership. Services are provided from three locations:

  • The Countess of Chester Hospital: 438 general and acute beds
  • Ellesmere Port Hospital: 56 beds for rehabilitation, intermediate, and outpatient services
  • Tarporley War Memorial Hospital: a base for community services serving the local rural area

The Trust employs over 5,916 staff, including temporary bank staff, providing emergency, elective, primary care, and obstetric services to approximately 411,000 residents in Chester, West Cheshire, Ellesmere Port, Neston, and parts of Flintshire.
