Job summary

Kent County Council is seeking a Portage Practitioner for Early Years to support children with SEND aged 0–4 across Kent. The role covers Ashford, Folkestone, Hythe, Dover and surrounding areas, with a flexible hybrid model and travel as needed.

Ideal candidates have NVQ Level 3 in Childcare and GCSE English, strong development knowledge, and the ability to adapt play-based learning to individual needs. The interview process includes a short presentation and a driving licence may be required.

Qualifications

• Requires NVQ Level 3 in Childcare (or equivalent).
• GCSE English at Grade 4–9 or equivalent.
• Experience with very young children with SEND and knowledge of child development.

Responsibilities

• Deliver home-based and group learning sessions to children with SEND and their families.
• Support transitions into Early Years provisions.
• Work across home, office, community, and virtual environments.
• Assess development and set targets to meet educational needs.
• Plan, deliver and evaluate tailored interventions.
• Support parents and professionals to implement recommendations.
