Job summary

Merton Council is seeking a Portage Parenting Officer to support children from birth to three with SEND, delivering personalised programmes in home and community settings. The role focuses on empowering families through play-based learning and family-centred support.

You will collaborate with health professionals and early years teams, maintaining records and contributing to reviews. Part-time role with hybrid working arrangements, permanent contract.

Qualifications

  • Experience of working with young children with SEND and families.
  • Sound understanding of child development and early intervention.
  • Excellent communication, organisation and record-keeping skills.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver high-quality Portage support to children with SEND.
  • Work with parents to support child learning and development.
  • Assess progress and develop learning targets.
  • Plan and deliver play-based activities in homes, Children’s Centres and Family Hubs.
  • Support delivery of programmes for autism spectrum and language delay.
  • Facilitate parenting groups and model practical strategies.
  • Collaborate with health professionals, early years providers and SEND teams.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to reviews and transition planning.
  • Help families access local services and opportunities.
