Job summary

James Fisher is hiring a Port Operative Apprentice in Plymouth for a 12-month programme at Cattedown Wharves. You will learn to discharge and load ships, drive heavy plant machinery, and support cargo movements through busy port operations.

The role requires attendance at Sea Regs training centre for courses and qualification, with exposure to shipping operations and regulatory responsibilities in handling animal feed products.

Qualifications

• GCSEs (or equivalent) with English and Mathematics.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Full UK driving licence.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication.

Responsibilities

• Assist with loading/unloading cargoes at ships, road transport and warehouses.
• Follow safe systems of work and complete risk assessments.
• Train to operate new machinery and heavy plant equipment.
