Job summary

James Fisher and Sons in Plymouth is offering a Port Operative Apprentice role at Cattedown Wharves. This 12‑month apprenticeship, reporting to the Wharf Manager, will train you in discharging and loading ships, loading lorries, and general port operations while you attend Sea Regs training centre.

You will join a team of 5 port operators; you must hold a full UK driving licence and at least 3 GCSEs including English and Maths, plus basic Microsoft Office skills.

Qualifications

• Must hold a Full UK driving licence.
• A minimum of 3 GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grades A-C / 9-4, including English and Mathematics.
• Basic competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Familiarity with digital communication platforms.

Responsibilities

• Assist with a busy Port operation in Plymouth including loading/unloading cargoes to/from ships or road transport.
• Follow safe systems of work and conduct risk assessments.
• Be willing to train to operate new machinery.
