Position Summary
The Port Captain supports the AVP Safety & Nautical (Fleet Captain) by acting as his deputy, managing the day-to-day Marine operations of the Fleets (Silversea) with a focus on Safety and Navigation. This role supports 12 vessels, ensuring efficient and effective operations within the cruise industry. It requires maritime experience and a deep understanding of cruise ship operations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders such as Human Resources, Maritime Safety Standards, Training, Security, and Environmental Stewardship.
- Work with Ship Managers on Marine Class issues, inspections, surveys, and vessel safety reports.
- Implement marine injury prevention and workplace safety initiatives.
- Collaborate on safety corrective actions and lessons learned.
- Oversee Shoreside training programs for Deck Officers.
- Lead special projects related to safety and navigation.
- Participate in hiring of Bridge Officers with the AVP Safety & Nautical.
- Advise on marine and safety aspects for expedition departments and permits.
- Promote nautical policies and standardize procedures across the fleet.
- Participate in itinerary planning meetings and manage changes within 30 days.
- Serve as the main contact for nautical issues across departments.
- Develop and review nautical procedures and technical itineraries.
- Review monthly nautical and navigation reports.
- Represent Silversea in Nautical Working Groups within RCG.
- Monitor vessel maintenance, safety reports, and liaise on class-related issues.
- Monitor vessel stability and collaborate on future stability enhancements.
- Act as the point of contact for safety alerts related to weather, propulsion, fire, collision, and grounding.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 10-15 years of maritime experience, with at least 3 years in a senior officer role.
- Valid Seamen Book and Master certificates.
- Knowledge of Silversea and RCG navigational and safety procedures.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Educational background in Marine fields and relevant certifications.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Deep knowledge of maritime safety regulations and vessel maintenance.
- Experience with safety initiatives, corrective actions, and training programs.
- Leadership in safety and navigation projects.
- Familiarity with vessel stability, inspections, and surveys.
- Proficiency in Windows, Microsoft Office, and relevant platforms.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The environment includes office and shipboard locations, with possible high noise levels and the need for personal protective equipment as required.
