Job Title: Polymer Technologist

Location: Newcastle

CY Partners is delighted to be working with a leading global polymer manufacturer to recruit a Polymer Technologist for their forward-thinking New Product Development team. This is a brilliant opportunity for someone with a passion for coatings technology and a keen interest in materials innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Develop and optimise cutting-edge coating formulations and application techniques — including excimer, UV and 2K lacquers.
2. Design and implement novel water-based inks and primers to enhance product performance and sustainability.
3. Act as a technical expert in embossing techniques, creating innovative textures and visual finishes.
4. Introduce new surface features to improve functionality and align with emerging market trends.
5. Lead the development and evaluation of new products for various applications, ensuring a smooth and timely route to market.
6. Carry out laboratory testing to assess the properties and performance of films and surface coatings.
7. Provide technical support to production teams to troubleshoot and resolve issues with new and existing products.
8. Assist with the assessment and qualification of raw materials in line with quality and regulatory standards.

What We’re Looking For:

1. A degree in Chemistry, Polymer Science, Materials Science or a related field (BSc, MSc, or PhD).
2. Hands-on experience within the coatings or polymer industry.
3. Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and effectively.
4. A good understanding of new product development, process improvement, and health & safety practices.
5. A self-starter with a proactive attitude and the ability to work well both independently and within a team environment.
