Job description

Biotage is seeking an experienced Polymer/Organic Chemist to join our Research and Development team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research while solving complex chemistry challenges in both manufacturing and R&D environments. You will play a critical role in the development of new media for product innovation.

Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 per annum (depending on level of qualifications and experience), plus benefits.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the design and implementation of polymer and surface chemistry synthesis for new product development.
  • Provide technical solutions to chemistry process challenges across R&D and manufacturing.
  • Offer project input for consumable product development programs.
  • Monitor and report project progress and deviations to the wider project team.
  • Coordinate activities with project and line managers, ensuring effective resource planning within agreed timelines.
  • Ensure compliance with Biotage's Quality Assurance policies, Health & Safety regulations, and statutory obligations.
  • Stay up to date with emerging chemistry methodologies and build external networks to support innovation.
  • Monitor competitor intellectual property (IP) and assess its impact on media development.
  • Contribute to Biotage's IP portfolio by identifying and securing key inventions.
  • Maintain and update COSHH assessments within the polymer lab.
About You:

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A PhD or MSc in Polymer Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • Industry experience in polymer/surface chemistry, ideally within an R&D or manufacturing environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to provide innovative solutions.
  • Experience in project management and cross-functional collaboration.
  • A track record of scientific research, publications, or patents (desirable).
