Job summary

A leading company in manufacturing seeks a Polymer Development Specialist to create new formulations for PVC wallcoverings. This role involves collaborating with various teams to respond to customer needs and regulatory requirements, while ensuring safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate will have a degree in Science or Plastics Technology and experience in the polymer sector.

Qualifications

  • Experience in developing polymers, plastics, or chemicals.
  • Knowledge of fire retardant materials.
  • Experience with ISO 9001 and ISO 18001 management systems is an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new formulations for PVC wallcoverings in response to market and regulatory needs.
  • Investigate and improve existing polymer formulations.
  • Participate in mixing procedures and fire testing.

Job description

Main Aim of the Job

Responsible for polymer formulations and the development of new novel formulations and processes in the manufacturing of wallcoverings. Involvement in Fire Testing routines and providing technical input and support.

Role Accountabilities

  • Learn to develop new formulations for polymer (PVC) wallcoverings and processes in response to customer, market and regulatory requirements in collaboration with the manufacturing, design and product development teams.
  • Working with colleagues and customers to create new product constructions or types that increase the flexibility and range of products that can be manufactured by the company
  • Investigate methods to improve the existing polymer formulations and compounds to meet the changing market and environmental trends
  • Investigate and help resolve any issues that may arise to achieve desired results.
  • Evaluation of new and alternative raw materials to achieve product benefits such as cost savings, environmental or enhancements to safety.
  • Participation in the PVC and other polymers’ (including plastisol) mixing procedures
  • Handling of the ink formulations and investigating new inks systems
  • Involvement with Fire Regulations and Testing
  • Adherence to safety guidelines and protocols

Technical & Personal Competencies

  • Good knowledge of and experience in Polymers, plastisol, plastics, printing and related manufacturing processes.
  • Technical ability – Degree level Science/Plastics technology
  • Knowledge and experience of Fire Retardant materials in polymers
  • Good interpersonal skills, confidence, tact, diplomacy
  • Flexible and calm in a rapidly changing and demanding environment
  • Good attention to detail

Qualification, Experience & Background

  • Development role experience in Polymers, Plastics, Chemical or converting industry
  • Management systems experience including ISO 9001 and ISO 18001 would be an advantage
  • Chemicals safety
