Qualifications

  • Experience of aquatic macroinvertebrate sampling and identification to Family level beneficial.
  • Full clean UK driving licence required.
  • Right to work in the UK is essential.

Job description

Pollution Response Technician - West Sussex - Hybrid (home-based with travel to client site). Permanent. Competitive salary plus overtime, company van, and benefits. Join our team at the forefront of environmental protection - you'll play a key role in investigating water pollution incidents, carrying out field-based monitoring, and collecting vital environmental samples for laboratory analysis across the Southern Water region.

More about the role:
  • Attend and investigate water pollution incidents across the Southern Water region.
  • Undertake field monitoring works including water quality measurements and sampling.
  • Conduct desk-based data entry after collecting data in the field.
  • Carry out technical report writing in response to water pollution incidents, time-limited in accordance with client requirements.
  • Maintain all equipment needed for site and maintain cleanliness of vehicle to a high standard and inform line manager if new equipment is needed.
  • Provide accurate and timely information to line management.
  • Support the team performance by sharing knowledge and best practices at all levels.
Requirements:
  • Degree in a Biological or Environmental Sciences discipline, desirable but not essential.
  • A strong understanding of water chemistry and the indicative parameters.
  • Experience in scientific fieldwork, and an enthusiasm for working outdoors in all weathers.
  • Competent user of Microsoft Outlook, Excel & Word.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management skills.
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills with the ability to pay close attention to detail.
  • Experience of aquatic macroinvertebrate sampling and aquatic macroinvertebrate identification skills to Family level would be beneficial.
  • Understanding of the role of regulators such as the Environment Agency.
  • Laboratory analysis in environmental monitoring, and environmental compliance.
  • A full clean UK driving licence.
  • Right to work in the UK is essential.
