We are seeking a dynamic Politics Live News Editor to lead our daily politics live blog, live politics news output, and help put together our politics newsletter. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in shaping how we cover the political agenda at Westminster and beyond, with a focus on the real-world impact of politics. This is a rare and exciting opportunity to lead the growth of The i Paper's digital storytelling, including through new formats and social video.

Responsibilities:
  1. Manage the daily politics live blog, ensuring distinctive reporting, analysis, and interpretation of the political agenda.
  2. Coordinate and direct live politics news coverage, maintaining editorial standards and ensuring swift response to breaking news.
  3. Help to plan and edit the daily politics newsletter, working closely with the newsletter team to curate and deliver key political stories and analysis to subscribers.
  4. Ensure political content is engaging, accessible, and aligns with The i Paper's editorial values of impartiality and clarity.
  5. Expand visual storytelling and enhance social video output across live politics coverage.
  6. Develop new ways to drive engagement with journalism and embed best practices.
  7. Provide constructive feedback to reporters, helping prioritize projects for maximum digital impact.
  8. Work towards team benchmarks for success, including digital subscription goals.
Requirements:
  • Experience on the newsdesk of a national news publisher or broadcaster, or as a political reporter.
  • Ability to write and edit news quickly and to deadline.
