Based in the NEU Hamilton House(London, WC1H 9BD)

Permanent, Full-time

Commencing salary £54,748per annum

The National Education Union is aforce for change in the world of education, bringing together more than 450,000teachers, lecturers, support staff and leaders working in maintained and independentschools and colleges across the UK.

The successful candidate willcontribute to the advancement of the union’s aims by assisting the SeniorPolitical Officer in developing and implementing the political strategy of theNEU.

They will do this by managingrelationships with elected local government representatives, Metro Mayors andthe Combined Authorities; Monitoring and analysing local and regional politicalactivity to identify opportunities to advance the union’s strategic priorities;Attending meetings and events as directed by the Senior Political Officer andWorking with the National Campaign Managers to develop and implement locallobbies and other local activities as required.

They will demonstrate knowledge ofthe political system in England with the ability to write analytically andpersuasively in a variety of styles for a range of audiences. For example:briefing papers, management information, analysis and evaluation papers. Theymust have great communication and public speaking skills and ability to relateto a range of people in a range of situations.

Prospective applicants are advisedthat the role will require regular evenings and weekend work which arenecessary for the performance of the role. There will also be occasional travelto attend regular activities, conferences and meetings away from the normalplace of work, and which may involve stays away from home. These could belocally, regionally, and nationally.

In addition to salary, we offergood conditions including 33 days annual leave plus Christmas closure days anda generous salary pension scheme. Salary and benefits will be offered pro-ratafor part-time hours.
