Salary – Circa £40,000 per annum, salary dependant on skills and experience

Home based & office/site based, Northampton/Bedford/Huntingdon/Milton Keynes/Peterborough/Grantham/Lincoln/Norwich

Permanent full time role, 37 Hours a week

Anglian Water offers a flexible approach; this role offers you the flexibility to work from home and from an Anglian Water office. Your base location could be at an operational site or office within the West of our region including (depending on your location); Northampton, Milton Keynes, Bedford, Huntingdon, Peterborough, Grantham or Lincoln.

Our services are at the heart of every single family and community in our region. Our Water Services team clean water to the highest standard, deliver it to millions of homes, and carefully manage it to ensure it never runs out. We borrow water from the environment, store it and treat it to world-class standards to supply safe drinking water to 4.3 million customers in towns and villages from Grimsby in the north east of our region to Milton Keynes at the south-western tip.

You will be working closely with the wider business, you’ll be responsible for delivery of an effective and efficient operational scientific strategy for drinking water quality , and ongoing implementation and development of our Drinking Water Safety Planning approach. As part of this you will own the long-term operational strategies for dealing with any deteriorating water quality performance trends . ,. You will also monitor delivery of our drinking water quality legal instruments ensuring that all regulatory expectations and deadlines are met. Additionally, to this you will ensure that all new regulatory requirements and expectations are embedded as required .

Your other responsibilities will also include:

  • Ensure that water quality p rogress r eports and milestone requirements are drafted, signed off and are submitted to the D rinking W ater I nspectorate by the required deadlines .

  • Ensure that the wider business understands their responsibilities for delivery of key milestones requirements and th at all regulatory deadlines are understood .

  • Ensure that long-term control measures are identified , are clearly evidenced , and are promoted for inclusion in the Drinking Water Quality programme or Capital Maintenance programme .

  • Be recognised as a scientific strategy technical expert within the business

  • Provide water quality training .

  • Provide out of hours local scientific standby cover, being able to provide scientific advice on any asset or area of the company.

What does it take to be a Policy and Strategy Scientist?

  • Ideally you will be educated to degree level in a relevant scientific subject and be a member of an appropriate professional body

  • Experience of water process science, water quality customer service and public health issues with demonstrable expertise in water treatment and distribution

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Full UK driving licence
