The purpose of this role is to lead and support the drafting, implementation, and review of legislation. The post holder will provide advice to stakeholders, Department for Transport (DfT) officials, and lawyers, including interpreting legislation underpinning DVSA's responsibilities. The role involves managing relationships within the DfT and across Government to ensure strategic alignment and maximize benefits. There will be line management responsibilities, and we support our line managers to develop their skills, fostering teams where people can flourish and deliver excellent outcomes.

This varied and challenging role requires adaptability and flexibility, with the ability to adjust priorities to maintain strategic direction. Responsibilities include:

  1. Working with Service Managers and Product Managers, liaising with DVSA Enforcement.
  2. Ensuring all relevant regulatory clearance processes are completed with DfT.
  3. Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to implement regulatory changes efficiently, managing expectations, and providing advice to senior stakeholders and service managers.
  4. Reviewing DVSA change proposals to evaluate impacts on policy, legislation, enforcement, and fees.
  5. Drafting requests for legal advice, optimizing the use of lawyers' time and resources.
