Shape housing policy that puts people first, ensuring every resident's voice counts
Shape housing policy that puts people first, ensuring every resident's voice counts.
As a Policy & Governance Officer at the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, you'll help shape and update the housing policies that guide how we support our residents. It's a role that blends thoughtful research, collaborative working and clear communication - and one where the impact of your work will be seen and felt across the borough.
Working Style:
You'll be based in the Borough for a minimum of 3 days a week, playing a key role in serving the local community as you'll be part of a dedicated team making a real difference to residents' lives.
What you'll be doing:
You'll lead on developing, reviewing and maintaining housing policies - from drafting and researching to coordinating rollouts and making sure every policy goes through the right council processes. Whether you're reviewing legislation, comparing approaches across boroughs or working with frontline teams to turn insight into action, you'll be helping make sure our policies are practical, inclusive and effective.
A big part of your role will involve bringing residents into the process - organising consultations, creating surveys and facilitating workshops so the policies we create are shaped by the people they affect. You'll also track consultation feedback, keep detailed records, and report to senior leaders on the progress of policies and how we're listening to residents.
This is a role that calls for clarity and curiosity. You'll need to manage a full policy schedule, spot what's missing or needs improving, and explain complex ideas in a straightforward way. You'll work closely with Housing Management colleagues and partners across the housing sector - from other councils to community organisations - to share ideas, learn from others and build stronger services together.
For further details, please review the Job Description and Person Specification.
What you'll bring
You'll bring experience in policy development or governance - or a strong understanding of how these processes work - and a real knack for turning research into action. You're someone who can write clearly and confidently, whether it's a new policy, a governance report or an equality impact assessment.
You're naturally organised and good at managing long-term projects - with the attention to detail needed to keep multiple documents moving through consultation, sign-off and implementation. You know how to engage with different audiences, whether that's residents, colleagues or senior leaders, and you're comfortable gathering, analysing and presenting feedback.
What matters most is that you're proactive, adaptable and motivated by improving things for residents. You'll thrive in this role if you enjoy working independently but also value collaboration and are confident managing a varied workload.
Why join us
At RBKC, we're all in - investing in our people, our communities and our future.
You'll join a supportive, forward-thinking Service Improvement team where learning is encouraged, and your ideas are welcomed. This is a great place to grow your skills in policy, consultation and governance - and to see the direct impact of your work on the services residents rely on every day.
You'll be part of a team that values clear communication, practical thinking and genuine collaboration. We offer a competitive salary, flexible working options and a strong focus on personal development, including training and progression opportunities.
