Job description

Location: Hybrid - Tower Hill, London and homeworking

Salary: £53,000 per annum

Hours: Full time, 37.5 hours per week

Contract: Permanent

About the role

Do you want to influence public policy and help shape the future of one of the UK’s leading homelessness charities?

The Strategies, Policy and Research team at St Mungo’s plays a vital role in using the insight from our services to advocate for change. We are now looking for a Policy and Public Affairs Manager to lead our policy development and public affairs work, ensuring our voice is heard at local, regional and national levels.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing effective policy and public affairs strategies aligned with St Mungo’s 2024–2030 Organisational Strategy.
  • Leading on policy development, identifying emerging issues, and producing evidence-based positions and recommendations.
  • Coordinating impactful public affairs activity, including engagement with Parliament, local government, and key stakeholders.
  • Using research and data to enhance our influence and raise St Mungo’s profile as an evidence-based organisation.
  • Producing briefings, reports, and consultation responses for internal and external audiences.
  • Involving clients in all aspects of our policy and public affairs work, including creating opportunities for direct engagement with political stakeholders.

In this role, you will be required to work flexibly for at least 2 days per week from our Central Office in Tower Hill, London. This allows for in-person collaboration, team building, and relationship development. We support a flexible approach to work with opportunities for agile working for the rest of your week; from home, or other St Mungo’s London or regional locations.

About you

We are looking for a strategic and politically astute individual with a strong track record in policy and public affairs.

You will have:

  • Experience of influencing public policy and delivering impactful policy and research projects.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including politicians and clients.
  • Experience managing staff or volunteers and confidence in leading strategic partnerships and collaborative initiatives.
