Job summary

Sheffield City Council is seeking two Policy & Projects Officers (Grade 7) to join the Strategy & Public Affairs Team in Sheffield. You will shape policy, manage cross-cutting projects and translate evidence into practical action for the city.

You'll work across local, regional and national partners, briefing senior leaders and supporting engagement with Ministers. The role offers a chance to contribute to high-profile initiatives and the city's continued growth.

Qualifications

• Ability to get to grips with complex issues, make sense of evidence, think creatively and turn ideas into action.
• Experience in policy development and project delivery is desirable.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills for internal teams and external partners.

Our Strategy & Public Affairs Team sits at the heart of the Council. We help develop strategies and policies that deliver Sheffield's ambitions, bring together multidisciplinary teams to tackle complex problems, and make sure our work is delivering for Sheffield's residents.

One week you could be helping develop a major city strategy. The next you might be tackling a difficult policy challenge, briefing senior leaders on a government announcement, or supporting engagement with Ministers and national partners.

We also help Sheffield make its voice heard, working with key regional and national partners and networks.

The Grade 7 roles will give you the opportunity to build your experience and get hands-on with policy, research, analysis, project management, briefings and partnership working.

You don't have to be a career policy professional

We want people who can bring different experiences, perspectives and ideas, whether you've worked in frontline public services, local government, a mayoral strategic authority, the Civil Service, consultancy or the voluntary sector.

What matters is your ability to get to grips with complex issues, make sense of evidence, think creatively, build relationships and turn ideas into action.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.
