Murray McIntosh is proud to partner with Future Biogas, one of the UK's leading anaerobic digestion developers and operators, with 11 AD plants nationwide and over 175 employees. Established in 2010 and recently acquired by 3i Infrastructure plc, the business is entering its next phase of growth, developing pioneering projects that combine unsubsidised green gas and carbon sequestration to help organisations decarbonise their operations.

Future Biogas is now seeking a Policy Advisor to join its growing team and support the business at the forefront of the anaerobic digestion, biomethane and BECCS sectors.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Head of Policy & ESG, you will play a key role in shaping and influencing policy across the renewable energy, agriculture and carbon capture landscape. This is a highly visible position offering significant autonomy, exposure to senior stakeholders and the opportunity to influence both business strategy and wider industry development.

You’ll work across the business to provide policy insight, lead consultation responses, engage with government and industry bodies, and communicate complex policy developments in a clear and commercially relevant way.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and analyse UK and European policy, regulation and legislative developments across energy, agriculture, waste, planning, sustainability and carbon markets.
  • Track emerging areas of strategic importance including carbon capture, soil carbon sequestration, green gas, ESG and guarantees of origin.
  • Lead and coordinate consultation responses, gathering input from stakeholders across the business.
  • Represent Future Biogas at industry events, conferences, trade associations and working groups.
  • Build relationships with government departments, MPs, civil servants and industry bodies.
  • Support the identification of new commercial opportunities and contribute to responses to requests for information (RFIs).
  • Deliver policy updates, presentations and webinars to internal and external audiences.
  • Produce engaging articles and content on renewable energy, anaerobic digestion and the UK's journey towards net zero.
About You

Future Biogas is looking for a proactive and self-motivated policy professional who enjoys taking ownership and building strong relationships across a business.

You’ll bring:

  • A degree in Environmental Management, Geography, Agriculture or another relevant discipline.
  • Relevant experience within the sector or a government environment.
  • Strong policy research, analysis and writing skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • The confidence to work independently and influence both internal and external audiences.
  • A genuine interest in renewable energy, sustainability, agriculture and environmental policy.

Experience across areas such as anaerobic digestion, biomethane, renewable energy, agriculture, circular economy, waste, resource management, carbon capture or environmental regulation would be advantageous.

Location

GU2 7YD

Future Biogas' headquarters are based in Guildford, with a new office opening within the Surrey Research Park. With a hybrid working model, the business already attracts talent from London and the South East, supported by strong rail links and shuttle transport.

The role requires a minimum of three days per week in the office, with occasional travel and overnight stays as required.

Package
  • Competitive salary
  • Annual bonus opportunity
  • Private healthcare
  • Life assurance
  • 5% pension contribution
  • EV lease scheme
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
Why Join Future Biogas?

This is an opportunity to join a fast-growing renewable energy business at a pivotal stage of its development. You’ll work on a broad range of policy topics, collaborate with senior leaders across the organisation, and help shape the future of the anaerobic digestion, biomethane and BECCS sectors in the UK.

If you’re looking for a role combining policy, advocacy, stakeholder engagement and real-world impact within the energy transition, Future Biogas would be pleased to hear from you.
