About the role:
To safeguard and protect the vulnerable by investigating and detecting Professional Investigation Programme (PIP) Level 1 crime. To bring offenders to justice thereby supporting the Force mission, organisational priorities and the Police and Crime Plan. In particular, and in addition to level 1 responsibilities, hold agreed designated powers and to:
- Act as the investigator in the case, carrying out investigations professionally, ethically, thoroughly and expeditiously in accordance with investigation policy, Professional Investigation Programme (PIP) standards and legal requirements.
- Prepare and conduct interviews of suspects, preparing and delivering relevant disclosure. Carry out associated custody procedures.
- Operate flexibly across all investigatory strands.
- Investigate Child Abuse, Vulnerable Adult Abuse, Sexual Abuse, Domestic Abuse cases, Sexual offences and level 1 acquisitive crime.
- Deal with safeguarding, managing risk, in such cases as Child Neglect, Child Abuse, and Child Sexual Abuse, Offences against Vulnerable Adults, Domestic Assaults and Sexual Offences.
- Complete appropriate risk and impact assessments for the victim and where appropriate the wider community, ensuring that appropriate support is implemented.
- Liaise with victims and witnesses throughout the investigation, keeping them informed of progress and complying fully with the Victim Codes of Conduct.
- Provide a seamless service for victims that meets their individual needs by working closely with the Victim Care Unit and partner agencies.
- Ensure all material, including exhibits, are seized, examined and retained in accordance with legislation and policy.
- Support and utilise the National Intelligence Model (NIM) throughout investigations.
- Identify potential links to other investigations, co-ordinating decisions and actions with other investigating officers.
- Take appropriate action to identify and arrange for the apprehension of suspects in accordance with legislation and policy.
- Work closely with partner agencies in line with agreed protocols to appropriately safeguard and protect the public.
- Carry out image analysis on computer systems to identify offences, specifically focusing on priority areas around children, missing people, sexual abuse and modern slavery.
- Interview suspects and witnesses to PIP level standards and in accordance with the legislation and Force policy.
- Disclose material in accordance with the Criminal Procedures and Investigations Act 1996.
- Attend scenes when tasked, conduct initial investigations and complete tasks as necessary.
- Support Neighbourhood Policing teams in reducing Risk, Harm and Vulnerability.
- Work with Neighbourhood team to problem solve local priorities.
