Job description

Police Staff Investigator Grade D, Liverpool

We are currently recruiting on behalf of Merseyside Police for the role of Police Staff Investigator at their Marsh Lane Police Station.

PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO POLICE VETTING CRITERIA, YOU MUST HAVE RESIDED WITHIN THE UK CONTINUOUSLY FOR AT LEAST 5 YEARS.

Purpose:

To support the hub in investigating Level 2 crime and assist in Level 1 and Level 3 crime investigations. Responsibilities include managing in-custody arrests, conducting suspect interviews, and preparing cases.

Key Duties:
  • Assist investigations by gathering evidence from various sources, including searching Force systems, reviewing CCTV footage, and interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects.
  • Complete administrative tasks related to investigations, such as taking statements from victims and witnesses.
  • Prepare accurate prosecution files, ensuring full disclosure of evidence in line with CPS and court deadlines.
  • Ensure compliance with the Victim's Code of Practice, including obtaining Victim Personal Statements and completing necessary documentation.
  • Identify and exploit criminal intelligence opportunities to prevent and detect crime, and submit intelligence reports as needed.
  • Interview suspects to gather evidence in accordance with PACE and relevant legislation.
  • Manage information and data securely, complying with APP and MoPI standards.
Essential Capabilities & Experience:
  • P.I.P level 1 or 2 qualification (or equivalent) and PEACE training or willingness to undertake it for conducting quality interviews.
  • Thorough knowledge of law, policy, and procedures relevant to the role.
  • Understanding of National File standards for case file preparation.
