Detective Constables are responsible for bringing justice to victims impacted by crime. As a Detective Constable (DC), you will work across a diverse community and face an evolving criminal landscape.

Difference between Police Constable and Detective Constable

While both roles respond to victims of crime, Police Constables focus on prevention and detection, whereas Detective Constables investigate serious and complex crimes affecting victims and communities. Both roles are vital for community safety and effective policing.

About the Role

Building on core police skills, you will develop expertise in emerging crimes like cybercrime and fraud, as well as high-harm offenses such as rape and domestic abuse. Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting victims and witnesses
  • Safeguarding vulnerable people
  • Apprehending and interviewing suspects
  • Leading at crime scenes
  • Engaging with youth to improve perceptions of police
  • Collaborating with emergency services and agencies
  • Presenting evidence to courts

Training

All recruits undergo elite training, transitioning from Police Officer to Detective Constable. This includes developing skills to:
