About your new role PLEASE NOTE: This role is not on the list of occupations eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker route Our specialist practitioners act exclusively for the police service, representing a diverse range of forces across England and Wales. As the largest dedicated police legal team in the country our lawyers have been involved in some of the most high profile and significant cases involving the police service over the last 15 years.
Responsibilities
We are currently recruiting for four Paralegals to join our national police claims team in
Liverpool, Manchester, Leicester or London. As a Paralegal your primary role will be to provide assistance to senior case handlers in the Police Claims team. You will be provided with the opportunity to work on a wide variety of claims against the police. Your key duties and responsibilities will include:
- Assisting fee earners with various tasks including general case management, legal research, drafting of witness statements and reports to clients and preparation for court hearings
- Attending client meetings and court hearings to support fee earners
- Assisting with the instruction of Counsel and experts
- Responding promptly and accurately to correspondence and telephone enquiries from clients and other parties, with and without supervision
- Achieving set financial and chargeable targets
- Supporting the teams business development activities
This list is not intended to be exhaustive and you will be expected to perform other duties and have other responsibilities that fall within the wider remit of the role. As a Paralegal you will also ensure that you comply with the relevant Weightmans and client policies and procedures, and consistently work in accordance with our values.

About You
Role
You will have previous experience as a Paralegal and a genuine and demonstrable interest in the above area of work. As the role is varied, we are looking for you to have a flexible approach to the work you do and be able to adapt to different tasks. We also require you to have:
- Excellent IT skills
- Excellent written and communication skills
- Excellent time management and organisation skills
- Excellent attention to detail and concentration
- Ability to multi-task and prioritise
- Ability to work to strict deadlines and targets
- Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
- Knowledge of CPR procedure with proven technical ability
- Previous Defendant claims experience, in-house experience of experience in working with the police are a bonus.
